Vietnam has become one of the fastest-growing destinations for Indian travellers, and nonstop flights, Hindi-speaking guides and Indian dinners are now easy to find. It is also why cruise cabins and beachfront rooms sell out in peak weeks, so the earlier you settle the route, the better your options.

What's Included in a Vietnam Travel Package (and What Isn't)

Almost every package sold to Indian travellers follows the same skeleton. The differences hide in the small print, so here is the checklist we use when reading anyone's quote, ours included.

Three line items that quietly move the price

• Domestic flights. Any route that runs from north to centre or south needs one. Hanoi to Da Nang takes about 1 hour 20 minutes in the air. Some agents fold the fare into the price; others add roughly ₹3,000–₹6,000 per sector afterwards.
• Cruise category. "Ha Long cruise included" can mean a basic boat with a small cabin or a 5-star ship with a balcony suite. Ask for the cruise name, the cabin type and whether you sleep on board.
• Meals. Breakfast is standard. Lunch and dinner are where budgets leak, and where vegetarian and Jain families get stuck. Ask for a named list of restaurants, not "Indian meals arranged".

Group, Private or Tailor-Made: Which Type of Vietnam Package Fits You?

You will see three formats in quotes. The jargon is worth learning, because it explains most price gaps.

Our honest view: for families and couples, private beats group unless the budget is very tight. In a group, one late guest or one souvenir-shop stop can eat an hour of your day, and in a humid city with children that hour matters. How Much Do Vietnam Travel Packages Cost from India?

The bands below are per adult, twin-sharing, land only, for a five-night trip. They are indicative ranges, not a quote: dates, cruise choice and hotel location decide the final number. Flights come on top.

These are "from" prices in INR, land only. Flights and the e-visa fee are separate, and rates move with the season, so confirm the current figure on WhatsApp before you plan around it.

What pushes a quote up or down

• Season. Peak weeks (Diwali, Christmas–New Year, Tet, Vietnamese public holidays) can run 15–30% above shoulder-season rates.
• Cruise class and cabin. The gap between a standard cabin and a balcony suite on a 5-star boat can be bigger than the gap between two hotels.
• Where you sleep. A beachfront room in Da Nang costs noticeably more than one two streets back. Hanoi's Old Quarter is convenient and loud, so ask for a higher floor.
• Group size. A private car and guide cost the same for two people or four, so per-head prices fall as your group grows.
• Add-ons. Ba Na Hills, cooking classes, spa sessions and a Mekong Delta day trip each add up.

The wide range comes mostly from airfare and season. Book flights early and travel outside peak weeks, and the lower end is realistic.

How Many Days Do You Need? Choose the Route Before the Package

Vietnam runs about 1,650 km from north to south, so distance, not sightseeing, is what fills your calendar. As a rule of thumb, every extra region costs roughly half a day in airports and transfers. That is why "seven cities in seven days" packages leave people exhausted. Match your nights to a route that fits:

Travel times worth knowing

• Hanoi to Ha Long Bay: about 2.5–3.5 hours by road. Hanoi to Ninh Binh: about 2–2.5 hours.
• Hanoi to Sapa: about 5 hours by road, so count it as most of a day.
• Hanoi to Da Nang: about 1 hour 20 minutes by air. Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City: about 2 hours by air.
• Da Nang to Hoi An: about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Da Nang to Hue: about 2.5–3 hours, longer with Hai Van Pass stops.
• Ho Chi Minh City to the Cu Chi Tunnels or the Mekong Delta: about 1.5–2 hours each way.

Best Time to Book a Vietnam Trip: Weather, Crowds and Price Spikes

Vietnam runs three weather systems at once, so the trick isn't finding one perfect month. It is matching your dates to the right region.

Price-spike dates to plan around

• Diwali week and Christmas–New Year. Hotels and cruises sell out early, so book six to eight weeks ahead at the very least.
• 30 April–1 May and 2 September. These are Vietnamese public holidays. Local families fill beaches and cruises, and rates jump.
• Tet (Lunar New Year). In 2027 it falls on Saturday, 6 February. Many restaurants and shops shut for several days and domestic transport gets packed. The atmosphere is special, but plan a city-based trip and book well ahead.
• Indian summer holidays (May–June). Lean Central. Da Nang and Hoi An are at their sunniest, though hot, while Phu Quoc turns rainy and the south gets afternoon showers.

Indian passport holders need a visa for mainland Vietnam. The e-visa is the route almost everyone takes: no embassy visit, no sponsor letter, and it stays valid for up to 90 days.

Flights from India and How to Handle Money in Vietnam

Not long ago, reaching Vietnam meant a connection in Bangkok or Singapore. Now several Indian cities have nonstop flights, which turns a six-night package into a comfortable week away. Here is what we see as of September 2026:

Schedules change every season, so treat this as a starting point and verify before you buy. Return fares commonly run ₹20,000–₹40,000 in shoulder season and more in peak weeks.

• Lock the package dates first. A package can move; a discounted non-refundable ticket can't. We can also quote airfare alongside the land package.
• Consider an open-jaw ticket. On trips of eight nights or more, fly into Hanoi and out of Ho Chi Minh City so you never backtrack.
• Money. The rupee isn't accepted in Vietnam and UPI works at only a few places. Carry some US dollars to exchange (clean, undamaged notes get better rates), add a forex card, and use ATMs sparingly because of fees. Cards work in hotels, malls and most restaurants; markets, street food and small taxis run on cash. Check the day's exchange rate before you convert.

Red Flags to Check Before You Pay for a Vietnam Package

We would rather you spot these in a competitor's quote than discover them in Hanoi. None is a deal-breaker alone; two or three together usually are.

• No hotel names. "4-star hotel in Hanoi" can mean anything. Ask for names, or at least a shortlist of two per city.
• A cruise with no name or cabin type. The cruise is often the most expensive single line in the package, so it should be named.
• A price with no dates. A "from" price without travel dates or a validity date is a marketing number, not a quote.
• Shopping stops. Silk, lacquer and jade "factory visits" are usually commission stops. Ask for the itinerary without them.
• Vague flights. "Domestic flights extra as per actual" leaves the biggest variable open. Get a figure.
• Payment to a personal account with no invoice. Pay a registered business and get an invoice that shows GST and TCS.
• No one on the ground. A salesperson's WhatsApp isn't support. Ask who picks up when your driver is late at 11 pm.
• No weather policy. Cruises get cancelled when storm warnings go up. Ask how rebooking or refunds work before you pay.

How to Book a Vietnam Travel Package in Six Steps

Nothing here is complicated, but the order matters.

1. Lock your dates and headcountCheck that every passport is valid for six months beyond your entry date, and note the ages of any children.
2. Choose a route by nightsUse the route table and keep it to two or three regions. Ask for a tailor-made plan if your dates or wishes are unusual.
3. Ask for a written INR quoteIt should name the hotels, the cruise and cabin, the meals and the domestic flights, and it should show GST and TCS clearly.
4. Compare quotes line by lineUse the included and not-included checklist rather than the headline price.
5. Pay the deposit and keep the paperworkGet an invoice, the cancellation terms and a voucher list. Then buy international flights that match the final dates.
6. Apply for the e-visa two to three weeks aheadBuy travel insurance, share passport details for cruise tickets, and keep printed and digital copies of everything.

Food, Safety and Small Things That Make a Vietnam Trip Easier

• Vegetarian and Jain food. Look for the word chay (vegetarian) and say "Tôi ăn chay". Buddhist vegetarian restaurants are common, especially in Hue, and many avoid onion and garlic, though you should always confirm. Fish sauce (nuoc mam) hides in dips and dressings. Tell cruise kitchens at booking; Jain meals usually need advance notice.
• Indian restaurants. Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City all have them, which makes a dependable dinner for children or older parents.
• Petty theft. Phone and bag snatching from passing scooters is the usual city risk. Carry bags on the side away from the road and keep phones out of sight near kerbs.
• Crossing roads. Walk at a steady pace into the scooter flow. Never sprint or stop halfway.
• Getting around. Grab works for cars and bikes in the big cities. Ask your hotel to write your destination in Vietnamese.
• SIM and power. A tourist SIM or eSIM costs little and hotel Wi-Fi is everywhere. Sockets are 220V and take two-pin plugs, so Indian round two-pin chargers usually fit; carry a universal adapter for the rest.
• Temples. Cover shoulders and knees, and carry a light scarf.
• Lost passport. Keep scans on your phone. Even after the Indian Embassy issues an emergency document, Vietnamese authorities usually take 3–5 working days to issue an exit permit, so build slack into your return.
• Insurance. Choose cover with proper medical and evacuation limits, and don't rent a scooter without the right licence, because many policies refuse claims for unlicensed riding.
