What a Vietnam Travel Package Actually Is
A Vietnam travel package is a bundle of ground arrangements — hotels, transfers, a driver or guide, sightseeing and some meals — sold at one price and organised by a tour operator so you do not have to stitch everything together yourself. Flights and the visa are normally handled separately, which surprises many first-time buyers.
Demand from India has taken off. Vietnamese tourism figures reported by VOV show more than 746,000 Indian arrivals in 2025, up 48% on 2024, and the first two months of 2026 were up another 71%. New non-stop flights are a big reason (more on those below). More visitors also means more sellers, which is exactly why it pays to know what you are comparing.
The three ways packages are sold
Group departure
Fixed dates, a shared coach with 15–40 strangers and a set pace. Cheapest per head, but you wait for the whole group at every stop and cannot change anything.
Private package

Three line items cause most price gaps. First, internal flights such as Hanoi to Da Nang: is the ticket in the price or not? Second, the cruise: day or overnight, and which cabin category. Third, hotels: a "4-star" label is not standardised in Vietnam, so ask for hotel names. We itemise all three on every quote.

What actually moves the price
- Travel month. Christmas–New Year, Tet and Diwali week cost noticeably more than March or June.
- Hotel category and location. A beachfront resort in Da Nang and a mid-range hotel in the Old Quarter are different products.
- Cruise type. A day cruise, a shared-cabin overnight and a balcony suite on a 5-star junk sit at very different price points.
- Group size. Six people share one vehicle and guide; two people carry the whole cost.
- Internal flights. Each hop between regions adds a fare, and it is easy to miss when comparing quotes.

Our view: DIY works well for confident travellers with 12 or more days and flexible dates. A package pays for itself on shorter trips, with children or parents, for honeymooners, and for anyone who would rather spend the holiday looking at karsts than at booking apps.

How Many Days Should Your Vietnam Travel Package Be?
Vietnam is long and thin. Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is about a two-hour flight, and Hanoi to Da Nang is about an hour and twenty minutes. Every extra city costs you half a day in transit, so we plan around one rule: at least two nights in every base.

The most common mistake we fix: a five-day request for "north, centre and south". That is three flights and three hotel changes for very little actual sightseeing. Pick the region that excites you most and add the others on the next trip.
Best Time to Book and Travel
October to April is the best overall window for a Vietnam travel package: the north is at its best from October to April, the central coast from February to May, and the south from November to April. Here is how the calendar affects both weather and price:

How early should you book? Eight to ten weeks ahead for December to February and Diwali week; four to six weeks for other months. Cruise cabins and the best beach hotels go first. Book flights only after the land package is confirmed, so a hotel sell-out never strands a non-refundable ticket.

Visa, Flights and Money for Your Vietnam Trip
Vietnam visa for Indians
Indian passport holders need a visa. The simplest route is the e-visa: valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, with a government fee of USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry. Approval usually takes 3–5 working days, and your passport needs at least six months' validity. Apply only on Vietnam's official e-visa portal, since look-alike sites add fees. For our package guests we file the application at no service charge; the official fee itself goes to the Vietnamese government.
Phu Quoc island offers a separate 30-day visa-free stay if you fly in directly and stay on the island, but most travellers combine it with the mainland, so the e-visa remains the practical choice.
Flights from India
Getting to Vietnam is easier than it has ever been. As of mid-2026, direct flights run from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kochi, on IndiGo, Air India, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet and Akasa Air. Recent launches include Air India's Delhi–Hanoi service (from May 2026), Akasa Air's Mumbai–Hanoi flights (from 4 September 2026) and IndiGo's daily Mumbai–Hanoi service (from 25 October 2026).
- Kolkata to Hanoi: about 3 hours non-stop, the shortest hop from any Indian metro.
- Delhi to Hanoi: about 4.5 hours non-stop.
- Mumbai to Ho Chi Minh City: about 5.5 hours non-stop.
- Chennai and other cities: usually one stop via Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, 7–9 hours in total.
Return economy fares often fall between roughly ₹20,000 and ₹40,000 outside peak weeks, and rise around December and Tet. Schedules change seasonally, so we check live availability when we quote. For 9–10 day trips, consider an open-jaw ticket (into Hanoi, out of Ho Chi Minh City) to avoid backtracking.
Money in Vietnam
- Indian rupees cannot be spent or reliably exchanged in Vietnam. Carry US dollars to exchange, or use a forex card. Do not count on UPI.
- Expect roughly 300 Vietnamese dong to the rupee, so prices show up in the tens of thousands. Check the rate on the day you travel.
- Cards work in hotels, malls and restaurants in cities; markets, street food and small taxis are cash only.
Food note for vegetarians and Jains: look for the word "chay" on menus, and remember that fish sauce hides in many vegetable dishes. Indian restaurants operate in Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City, and cruise kitchens can cook Jain meals if you tell them at booking, not on board.

Follow this order and you will avoid nearly every booking mistake we see.

Fix your dates and group size
Decide the travel month, the number of nights and who is travelling — the ages of children matter for hotels and sights. Dates move the price more than anything else, so know how many days either side you can flex.

Choose regions, not a checklist of cities
Pick two bases (for example Hanoi and Hoi An) and give each at least two nights. Add a third region only if you have nine or more days.

Ask for an itemised quote in INR
A proper quote names the hotels, the cruise and cabin type, transfers, entry tickets, meals, and whether internal flights are included. Anything vague is a gap you will pay for later.

Get hotel and cruise confirmations, the cancellation and date-change terms, and an invoice before you pay. Book international flights only after the land package is confirmed.

Red Flags to Spot Before You Pay for a Vietnam Travel Package
Most disappointing trips trace back to a quote that looked fine but was quietly incomplete. Watch for these:
- No hotel names. "4-star hotel" with no name can mean anything.
- One lump-sum price with no list of inclusions and exclusions.
- "Cruise included" with no boat name, cabin type, or day or overnight detail.
- A price far below every other quote. Something has been removed, often internal flights, entry tickets or transfers.
- No Vietnam-based operator or ground contact. Ask for the local operator's name and licence, plus a helpline number that works in Vietnam.
- No invoice, or payment requested only to a personal account.
- Pressure tactics, such as "only two rooms left" for a quiet week in June.
Send these five questions to any operator: Which hotels, by name? Which cruise and cabin? Are internal flights and entry tickets included? What are the cancellation and date-change terms, in writing?
