Vietnam 7 Day Tour Package: A Realistic 7 Days 6 Nights Plan for Indian Travellers

Seven days is enough to fall for Vietnam, provided you stop trying to see all of it. This guide breaks a Vietnam 7 day tour package into four workable routes, a day-by-day 7 days 6 nights itinerary, the things that really move the price, the right months to go, and the mistakes we watch first-time visitors from India make again and again.

The Short Answer: What a Good Vietnam 7 Day Tour Package Looks Like

A good Vietnam 7 day tour package covers two regions, uses a single domestic flight, and gives you at least two nights in the places you'll actually want to linger. For most first-timers that means Hanoi for two nights, an overnight Ha Long Bay cruise, two nights in Hoi An and a final night in Da Nang. Every other route in this guide is a variation on that backbone.

7D / 6NSeven days, six nights, one cruise night included
2 regionsNorth and central Vietnam, not all three
1 flightHanoi to Da Nang, about 1 h 20 min
Private carWith an English or Hindi-speaking driver-guide
USD 25Government e-visa fee, single entry

If you only have time for one section, read the day-by-day plan. If you're still deciding what shape the trip should take, start with the four routes and come back to it. And if you'd like to see how this compares with longer options, our guide to the best Vietnam tour packages for Indian travellers lines them up side by side.

Is 7 Days Enough for Vietnam? The Honest Maths

Honestly? It's enough for a very good trip and not enough for a complete one. Vietnam runs roughly 1,650 km from the Chinese border to the Mekong Delta, and Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is about the same distance as Delhi to Mumbai. Nobody plans a Delhi–Mumbai holiday in a week and expects to see everything in between.

A "7-day" package is also shorter than it sounds. Day one is mostly an airport run, and so is day seven. Take those out and this is what you're really working with:

7 daysOn the calendar
6 nightsHotels plus one cruise cabin
~5 daysOf proper sightseeing
2 regionsThe realistic ceiling
Planning the route for a Vietnam 7 day tour package with two regions on the map
Seven days works best when the map has two regions on it, not three.

Where seven days stops working

Try to squeeze the north, the centre and the south into one week and the trip turns into airports with a bit of sightseeing in between: three flights, three check-ins and not one afternoon that belongs to you. If you want all three regions, or an island like Phu Quoc on top, we'd stretch the trip to nine or ten days. Seven is for doing two places properly.

4 Ways to Structure a Vietnam 7 Day Tour Package

Same seven days, four very different trips. The coloured bar on each card shows how the six nights are split. The longer the block, the more of the trip you actually spend there.

Most booked

The Classic: Hanoi → Ha Long Bay → Hoi An → Da Nang

  • Hanoi
  • Ha Long cruise
  • Hoi An
  • Da Nang

The route behind most first-time Vietnam 7 day tour packages: city energy in the north, a night on the water, then lantern-lit lanes and a beach in the centre.

Pick it if it's your first trip and you want a bit of everything.

Trade-off: day four is a long travel day (cruise to Hanoi, then a flight, then a drive).

Culture & food

The Heritage Route: Hanoi → Ninh Binh → Hue → Hoi An

  • Hanoi
  • Ninh Binh
  • Hue
  • Hoi An

Swap the cruise for rice-field boat rides in Ninh Binh, add Hue's Imperial City, then settle into Hoi An. Slower on water, richer on history.

Pick it if you'd rather see temples, tombs and citadels than spend a night on a boat.

Trade-off: no Ha Long Bay, and one night in Hue is enough for the Citadel but not for lingering.

Slow & easy

The Central Slow Route: Da Nang → Hoi An → Hue

  • Da Nang
  • Hoi An
  • Hue

One region, no domestic flights, nobody rushed. Beach mornings, Hoi An evenings and the Hai Van Pass drive up to Hue.

Pick it if you're travelling with young kids or older parents, or you've done Southeast Asia before and want depth over distance.

Trade-off: no Hanoi or Ha Long, it works best from February to May, and most flights from India connect via Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City first.

Fast-paced

North to South: Hanoi → Ha Long Bay → Hoi An → Ho Chi Minh City

  • Hanoi
  • Ha Long cruise
  • Hoi An
  • Ho Chi Minh City

An open-jaw ticket: fly into Hanoi, fly home from Ho Chi Minh City. You get the cool, misty north and the loud, humid south in one week.

Pick it if you want contrast and don't mind moving.

Trade-off: two domestic flights and a single night in Ho Chi Minh City. Honestly, this one is better at nine days.

Want a beach finish instead of a second city? Swap the last nights for Phu Quoc. Mind the visa fine print, though: Phu Quoc's visa-free rule for Indian citizens applies only if you fly in directly from outside Vietnam and stay on the island, so it doesn't cover a multi-city mainland trip. For anything with Hanoi, Hoi An or Ha Long in it you'll need the e-visa.

Day-by-Day Vietnam 7 Days 6 Nights Itinerary (The Classic Route)

This is the Classic route written out day by day, the one we'd book for a first trip. Timings are indicative because we reshuffle them around your actual flights, but the sequence is the one that has worked best for a Vietnam 7 days 6 nights tour.

  1. Day1

Arrive in Hanoi: Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter and a first bowl of pho

Overnight: Hanoi Airport to hotel: 45–60 min

Most flights from India reach Noi Bai airport in the afternoon or evening. Your driver-guide meets you at arrivals, and the ride into the city takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. After check-in, ease into it with a slow loop of Hoan Kiem Lake and a wander through the Old Quarter, where the lanes were originally named after the trade sold in them: silk, silver, paper, tin. Finish with pho or bun cha and an egg coffee, Hanoi's odd, custard-like local favourite.

Crossing the road: walk at a steady pace and don't stop or dash. The scooters flow around you. It feels wrong and works every time.
  2. Day2

Hanoi: Ho Chi Minh complex, Temple of Literature and water puppets

    Overnight: Hanoi

Start early at the Ho Chi Minh complex: the stilt house, the One Pillar Pagoda and, when it's open, the Mausoleum. Next comes the Temple of Literature, founded in 1070 and often described as Vietnam's first university, where the courtyards are quietest before 10 am. The afternoon is for Ngoc Son Temple on Hoan Kiem Lake and a long coffee break. In the evening you'll catch a traditional water puppet show before dinner back in the Old Quarter.

Check before you go: the Mausoleum is normally closed on Mondays and Fridays, and it shuts for an annual maintenance period that usually falls in autumn. We confirm this before locking the day and swap in the Hoa Lo Prison Museum or the Museum of Ethnology if needed.
  3. Day3

Hanoi to Ha Long Bay: boarding your overnight cruise

Overnight: cruise cabin Drive: about 2.5–3 hrs

Leave Hanoi by about 8 am. With expressway stretches and a rest stop the drive takes roughly two and a half to three hours, and you board around noon, with lunch served as the boat pulls away. The afternoon is why you came: kayaking or a bamboo-boat ride into a lagoon, a swim stop in the warmer months, and the climb up Ti Top Island, around 400 steps, for the view over the limestone karsts. Then sunset on the sundeck, a spring-roll demonstration, dinner, and squid fishing off the stern if you're feeling restless.

Overnight cruise cabin on Ha Long Bay during a Vietnam 7 day tour package
Season and crowds: from December to February it's cool and often hazy, so bring a jacket for the deck. For fewer boats and the same scenery, ask us about Lan Ha Bay, next to Ha Long on the Cat Ba side.
  4. Day4

Cruise checkout, a flight south and your first evening in Hoi An

Overnight: Hoi An Flight: Hanoi to Da Nang, ~1 h 20 min

Let's be straight about this one: it's a transfer day. After sunrise Tai Chi and brunch you disembark at about 11 am, drive two and a half to three hours back to Noi Bai, and fly to Da Nang. Hoi An is another 45 minutes by road. We book flights departing around 5 pm so that a slow cruise checkout can't cost you the flight. You'll reach your hotel in the evening, in time for a riverside dinner and your first look at Hoi An's lanterns.

Keep handy: passport, e-visa printout and domestic boarding details in your day bag. This is the day you'll need them. If you want tailor-made clothes in Hoi An, get measured this evening so fittings land on day five.
  5. Day5

Hoi An: Ancient Town, a cooking class and lantern boats

    Overnight: Hoi An

Hoi An's Ancient Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the trick is to see it before the day-trippers arrive. Walk the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Tan Ky merchant house and an assembly hall or two early. Then do something with your hands: a cooking class that starts at the market, or a coconut-basket boat ride through the water-palm forest at Cam Thanh. The late afternoon is for your tailor fitting and, at dusk, a small boat on the Thu Bon River where you can release a paper lantern. Dinner is cao lau noodles and white rose dumplings, both Hoi An originals.

Small detail: the old town needs an entry ticket for its main sights, which is why we list it in the inclusions rather than leaving you to queue for it.
  6. Day6

Da Nang: Ba Na Hills, the Golden Bridge and My Khe beach

Overnight: Da Nang Hoi An to Da Nang: ~45 min

Check out after breakfast and head for Ba Na Hills, aiming to be at the cable car when it opens. The Golden Bridge, held up by a pair of giant stone hands, is the photograph, and the French-style village on top is a surreal bonus. You'll be back in Da Nang by mid-afternoon with time for My Khe beach before dinner. On a Saturday or Sunday evening, stop by the Dragon Bridge, which usually breathes fire and water around 9 pm.

Da Nang beach on day six of a Vietnam 7 days 6 nights itinerary
Plan B: Ba Na Hills is often misty at the top and packed by late morning. If the weather's poor or crowds aren't your thing, we swap in the Marble Mountains and the Lady Buddha at Linh Ung Pagoda on the Son Tra peninsula.
  7. Day7

A slow last morning in Da Nang and departure

    Transfer to Da Nang airport

Walk the beach, or pick up coffee and dried fruit at Han Market, then transfer to Da Nang airport. It sits close to the city, so you can have a relaxed morning. Most Indian travellers connect home via Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, so leave a generous gap between flights and never book a tight connection on the last day. If you'd rather fly home direct from Hanoi, we can run the route in the opposite direction.

What's Included in a Vietnam 7 Day Tour Package

A package is only as good as the inclusions written down. Here is what a standard Vietnam 7 days 6 nights package from us covers, and what you should expect to pay for separately wherever you book.

Usually included

  • Six nights of accommodation, including the Ha Long Bay cruise cabin, at the stated category
  • Private AC vehicle with an English or Hindi-speaking driver-guide
  • Daily breakfast, plus all meals on the cruise
  • Entry tickets for every sight listed in the itinerary
  • Airport transfers and e-visa application assistance
  • 24×7 Hindi and English support from our Hanoi office

Usually extra

  • International flights to and from Vietnam
  • The e-visa government fee, payable to the Vietnamese government
  • Travel insurance
  • Lunches and dinners not listed in the day-by-day plan
  • Optional extras such as spa sessions, tailoring and extra tours
  • Tips and personal expenses

The domestic flight is the line people miss. Some packages include the Hanoi–Da Nang flight and others quote it separately, and some fares only include hand baggage unless you add a checked bag. Ask for it in writing, along with the baggage allowance, before you compare prices.

Vietnam 7 Day Tour Package Cost: What Actually Moves the Price

You won't find a single price here, and that's deliberate. Any one number would be wrong for most readers, because the cost of a Vietnam 7 day tour package swings with the factors below. Knowing which ones matter lets you compare two quotes fairly instead of just comparing totals.

FactorEffect on priceWhat to know
International flightsLargeUsually the single biggest line. Fares climb around Diwali and the year-end holidays, so book early.
Travel datesLargeDiwali week, Christmas–New Year and Tet push hotel and cruise rates up. Ordinary weekdays are cheapest.
Hotel categoryLargeThe gap between 3-star and 5-star is widest in Hoi An and Da Nang, where beachfront rooms carry a premium.
Ha Long cruise typeLargeStandard, deluxe and luxury cruises differ a lot, and a private-balcony cabin costs more than a window room.
Group sizeMediumThe car and guide are shared, so a group of four pays noticeably less per head than two people. Solo travellers pay a single supplement.
Domestic flightMediumCheck whether it's included, and what baggage the fare allows.
Add-onsSmallCooking classes, spa sessions, tailoring and upgrades add up quickly if you stack several.
VisaSmallUSD 25 per person for a single-entry e-visa. Multiple entry is not needed for this trip.

How to compare two quotes properly: line them up by hotel names, the cruise name, the cabin type and the written inclusions, not by the total. A lower price usually means a cheaper hotel, a shared cruise cabin, or a flight and entry tickets left out of the figure. Ask us for an itemised INR quote and we'll name every hotel and every inclusion.

Best Time for a 7 Day Vietnam Tour

Vietnam's weather isn't one story. The north, the centre and the south each run on a different calendar, and that matters a lot when your whole week is split between two of them. Temperatures here are rough guides, not forecasts.

MonthsNorth (Hanoi, Ha Long)Central (Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue)Verdict
Dec – FebCool, grey and misty, around 10–18°C. Cruises run but bring layers.Cool and showery early on, drying out toward February.Workable with layers. Tet closures hit in early February 2027.
Mar – AprMild and warming up, with the odd drizzle in March.Dry, warm and calm seas. Beach weather arrives.Best all-round window
May – AugHot and humid, with storm and typhoon risk building from July.Hot but dry, up to the mid-30s°C. Strong beach season.Favour the Central Slow Route. Check cruise cancellations.
Sep – NovClear, crisp and lovely, especially October and November. The wettest, stormiest weeks of the year, with flooding possible.Go north-heavy, or accept weather risk in the centre.

Travelling around Diwali (early November)? That's the awkward window: the north is at its best but central Vietnam is in its wet season. For these dates we usually pivot to a north-heavy plan, or add Phu Quoc from November, rather than sell the Classic route and hope for sun in Hoi An. Peak dates also sell out cruise cabins and good hotels first, so book at least two months ahead for Diwali, Christmas–New Year, or Tet, which falls around 6 February.

Visa, Flights and Getting to Vietnam From India

Visa: the e-visa is the easiest route

Indian passport holders need a visa to enter mainland Vietnam. For a 7 day trip, almost everyone applies for the e-visa on the official government portal at evisa.gov.vn. As of our latest check it is valid for up to 90 days and costs USD 25 for a single entry. Rules and fees can change, so confirm on the portal before you pay.

  1. Check your passport. It should be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date, with blank pages.
  2. Prepare two files. A recent passport-style photo and a scan of your passport's photo page.
  3. Apply on the official portal and fill in your arrival date, entry point and first night's hotel address.
  4. Pay the fee online by card. It is non-refundable even if the application is rejected, so check your details twice.
  5. Print the approval. Processing normally takes a few working days. Apply two to three weeks before you travel and carry a printout.

We also help our guests with the application as part of the package, but the government fee itself is paid separately.

Flights and timing

  • Time difference: Vietnam is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India. Direct flights from major Indian cities to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City take roughly four to six hours.
  • Arrival time matters: an afternoon arrival in Hanoi lets day one still count. A 2 am landing quietly turns your 7 day trip into a 6 day one.
  • Open-jaw tickets (into one city, out of another) save a backtrack, which is why the North to South route uses one.
  • Keep a buffer on the way home. Leave at least two hours between flights if you connect through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.

On-the-Ground Tips for Your 7 Day Vietnam Trip

None of this will make or break the trip, but all of it makes the week smoother.

Vegetarian and Jain food

Look for the word chay on signs: it means fully vegetarian. Strict Jain meals need a few days' notice so we can brief restaurants and the cruise kitchen. On travel days, carry a few snacks.

Money

The currency is the Vietnamese dong (VND). Rupees aren't widely exchanged, so carry some US dollars or withdraw dong from ATMs. Hotels and larger restaurants take cards, while markets and street food are cash.

SIM and data

A tourist SIM from an airport counter or an eSIM works well in cities. Expect patchy signal on the Ha Long cruise, so download offline maps and your e-visa before you board.

Power and plugs

Vietnam runs on 220 V, and most sockets take both flat and round two-pin plugs. Bring a small universal adapter anyway, since some older hotels are fussy.

What to pack

Light cotton and a packable rain jacket for most of the year, plus real layers for Hanoi in winter. Cover shoulders and knees for temples and pagodas, and bring comfortable closed shoes for Ba Na Hills.

Sun, rain and timing

Start sightseeing early. Mornings are cooler and emptier, and a sudden shower is easy to wait out over coffee. Save museums and indoor stops for the hottest part of the afternoon.

Who a 7 Day Vietnam Tour Package Suits (and Who Should Skip It)

Family enjoying a Ha Long Bay day on a Vietnam 7 day tour package

Book it if

  • It's your first trip and you have about a week of leave.
  • You want a mix of city, scenery, heritage and a beach without rushing.
  • You're a couple or family who'd rather have one team handle the logistics.
  • You'd like to add Vietnam to a longer Southeast Asia run later, not exhaust it in one go.

Skip it, or stretch it, if

  • You want the north, centre and south, plus an island, in one trip. Plan 9–10 days.
  • You want serious trekking. Sapa alone needs four or five days.
  • You're travelling with toddlers and would rather minimise transfers. Choose the Central Slow Route.
  • You can only travel in October or November and have your heart set on the beach in Da Nang.

5 Mistakes That Ruin a 7 Day Vietnam Trip

We see the same slips again and again when travellers build a week in Vietnam on their own. Avoid these and you're most of the way to a good trip.

  1. Cramming three regions into seven days. You'll count flights, not memories. Two regions, done properly, beats three done fast.
  2. Booking a late-morning flight on cruise checkout day. Ha Long to Hanoi airport takes about three hours. Book a flight around 5 pm and let the morning breathe.
  3. Ignoring central Vietnam's rainy season. October and November can bring storms and flooding to Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue. Check before you commit to a beach-heavy plan.
  4. Choosing the cheapest cruise. It often means a shared cabin, a crowded route and a rushed schedule. The overnight stay is the highlight of the north, so don't skimp on it.
  5. Treating the last day as a free day. If you connect through another city on the way home, keep a safe gap between flights and don't plan sightseeing near your departure time.

If you'd like to see how a longer trip fixes some of these, our guide to the best Vietnam tour packages shows how 9 and 10 day options are paced, and our Vietnam travel guide covers the rest of the country.

Frequently Asked Questions About a Vietnam 7 Day Tour Package

How much does a Vietnam 7 day tour package cost from India?

There isn't one honest number, because the price moves with your dates, hotel category, cruise type, group size and whether the domestic flight is included. Two travellers sharing a car pay more per head than a group of four. Send your dates and group size to our Hanoi team and you'll get an itemised quote in INR, with every hotel and inclusion named.

Is 7 days enough for Vietnam?

Seven days is enough for two regions done properly, for example Hanoi and Ha Long Bay in the north plus Hoi An and Da Nang in the centre. It is not enough to cover the north, centre and south in one trip without spending most of your time in transit. For three regions plus an island, plan 9 to 10 days.

What is the best itinerary for a Vietnam 7 day tour package?

For first-time visitors, the strongest 7 days 6 nights itinerary is Hanoi for two nights, an overnight Ha Long Bay cruise, two nights in Hoi An and one night in Da Nang. It uses a single domestic flight and mixes city life, scenery, heritage and beach time without rushing.

Which cities should I include in a 7 day Vietnam trip?

Stick to two regions. The most popular pairing is Hanoi and Ha Long Bay with Hoi An and Da Nang. If you prefer history to cruises, swap Ha Long Bay for Ninh Binh and Hue. If you would rather not fly at all, stay in central Vietnam with Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue.

What is the best time for a 7 day Vietnam tour?

March and April are the safest window for the classic north-plus-central route: the north is mild and the central coast is dry. October and November are lovely in the north but wet in central Vietnam, so a north-heavy route suits those months better.

Do Indians need a visa for a Vietnam 7 day trip?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa for mainland Vietnam. Most travellers apply for the e-visa on the official government portal: it is valid for up to 90 days, costs USD 25 for a single entry, and your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. Rules can change, so confirm on the official portal before paying.

Can I do a Vietnam 7 day tour package with kids or parents?

Yes. Pick a route with fewer transfers, such as the central Vietnam route through Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue, or keep the classic route and request family rooms, pool hotels and a later start on travel days.

Is vegetarian or Jain food available on a Vietnam tour?

Vegetarian food is easy to find, especially in Hanoi, Hoi An and Da Nang, where restaurants marked chay serve fully vegetarian menus. Strict Jain meals need a few days' notice, so tell us before you travel and we will brief the restaurants and the cruise kitchen.

What is included in a Vietnam 7 days 6 nights package?

A standard package includes six nights of accommodation including the Ha Long Bay cruise night, a private vehicle with an English or Hindi-speaking driver-guide, daily breakfast, cruise meals, entry tickets for listed sights, airport transfers and e-visa assistance. International flights, the visa government fee, travel insurance and personal expenses are usually extra, and the domestic flight depends on the package, so confirm it in writing.
